Traditionally, Truro Cathedral's Organ Scholar is invited to take on the role of accompanist to Truro Choral Society. Many of them have gone on to considerable success as professional organists, both in the UK and abroad, and the Society has followed their careers with great pleasure.

A graduate of Queen's College, University of Oxford, Thomas has recently completed postgraduate studies at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Toulouse.
2021/22 - Alden Wright
2021/22 - Alden Wright

Hailing from Salisbury, North Carolina, Alden continues our recent trend for accompanists from North America.

In May 2020, he graduated with highest distinction from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studied organ performance with Nathan Laube, and won the 2019 Arthur Poister National Competition in Organ Playing and the Pogorzelski-Yankee Memorial Scholarship for undergraduate studies.

He has served previously as Organ Scholar and Assistant Organist at Duke University (summer 2019) and at the Third Presbyterian Church in Rochester (2018-2020).

2019/20 - Manuel Piazza

Manuel graduated from the University of Toronto with a BMus in Organ Performance. While in Toronto, he served as choir director and organist at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, organ scholar at Trinity College (University of Toronto), organ scholar at St James' Anglican Cathedral, and one of the five organists of St Michael's Cathedral Basilica.

2018/19 - Carolyn Craig

Carolyn comes from Knoxville, Tennessee, graduating Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University (IU).

As a pianist, Carolyn performed at Carnegie Hall as a first-place winner of the American Protege International Music Talent Competition.
2017/18 - Will Fairbairn
2017/18 - Will Fairbairn

Will read music and was the organ scholar at St Catharine's College Cambridge. While there, he played under Edward Wickham for both the College Choir and the Girls' Choir, accompanying them in their weekly round of services as well as for radio broadcasts, recordings and tours across Europe and the Far East.

In his third year, he was also the repetiteur for Cambridge University Musical Society Chorus, playing under Stephen Cleobury.

2016/17 - Käthe Wright Kaufman

Originally from Evanston, Illinois, Käthe studied at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where in 2013 she received the Gerald Barnes Award for Excellence in Pipe Organ. She received the Van Delinder Prize in Liturgical Organ Skills from Christ Church, Rochester, in both 2014 and 2015, and won the West Chester University International Organ Competition in 2015.

2015/16 - Joseph O'Berry

A native of Georgia, USA, Joseph joins us following a year at Blackburn Cathedral as organ scholar.

From 2009-12 he read Organ Performance at The Townsend School of Music at Mercer University. He is a member of the Association of Anglican Musicians and a Colleague of the American Guild of Organists (CAGO).

2014/15 - James Orford

James was organ scholar at Dulwich College for four years, as well as assistant organist at St Mark's Church, Bromley, He has been awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, on completion of his year as Truro Cathedral organ scholar.
